Marechiaro's Italian Restaurant - Family Owned and Operated For Over 55 years!

Marechiaro's was established in 1955 by Benedetto Brunetto. Benedetto was born and raised in Palermo, Sicily; where he spent his youth fishing and then went on to fight in WWII in the 1940's. Captured as a P.O.W. by the British, he was taken to Scotland and continued his life working on a dairy farm. In 1952 he made his way to San Diego to begin a new life with his family, and he found work as a commercial tuna fisherman and saved all the money he earned in order to create his dream of owning a business that allowed him to spend more time with his family. In 1955, his dream became a reality when he opened his first pizza house with two other partners.

With their business up and running, all they needed then was a name. One of the partners suggested an Italian name which he thought would be easy to pronounce in English: "Marechiaro's Pizza House." Since that moment, Marechiaro's, which means "clear sea", has been pronounced in more ways than you might imagine. The correct pronunciation is: "Mah-ree-key-ah-rows".

Benedetto has since passed on, but his son, Giuseppe "Joe" Brunetto and family continue to work hard to maintain the quality of food, service, and customer satisfaction that Benedetto created decades ago. Our tradition of buying the best ingredients and making everything fresh daily has made Marechiaro's a household name in San Diego's East County.
